Reports To: Chief Medical Officer
Works Closely With: Medical Director

We are seeking a Hospital Director to join our team as we prepare to open a state-of-the-art, 40,000 square foot independent emergency and specialty hospital in south Denver in 2026.  We will offer 24/7 emergency services and a full range of specialty services, including surgery, critical care and oncology, with plans to add internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, and radiology by the end of 2026.

Job Summary

The Hospital Director is a key leadership role responsible for helping to open the hospital, successful daily operations once open, and long-term strategic growth of the hospital. In partnership with the Medical Director, this individual will oversee administrative functions, manage non-clinician staff, and ensure operational excellence across departments. The ideal candidate will bring experience in hospital operations, team leadership, and financial management, with a strong focus on culture, collaboration, and client service.

This role is vital in supporting Kin’s mission to deliver world-class veterinary care while restoring ownership, integrity and joy to the profession.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Partner closely with the Medical Director to guide hospital strategy, vision, growth, and execution.
  • Oversee day-to-day non-clinical operations, including client service, facilities, operations, and scheduling.
  • Champion Kin’s culture by fostering an inclusive, transparent, and values-aligned workplace.
  • Drive operational efficiency while maintaining a premium client and patient experience.
  • Monitor and manage hospital KPIs, workflows, and productivity metrics.

Team Management & Human Resources

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and performance management for all non-DVM staff.
  • Build a high-performing leadership team through development, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Establish and maintain staffing plans that support hospital growth and patient care needs.
  • Promote employee engagement, retention, and development initiatives across departments.

Finance & Business Strategy

  • Manage hospital budget, forecasting, and P&L performance.
  • Collaborate on pricing strategy, vendor relationships, and cost containment measures.
  • Identify opportunities for operational innovation and revenue growth.
  • Participate in short- and long-term business planning, aligned with Kin’s ESOP transition.

Compliance, Facilities & Risk Management

  • Ensure hospital-wide adherence to regulatory standards (OSHA, AAHA, DEA, etc.).
  • Oversee building maintenance, equipment procurement, and service contracts.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and risk mitigation efforts in coordination with the Medical Director.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of operational policies and procedures.

Client Experience & Community Engagement

  • Champion an exceptional, empathetic, and consistent client service philosophy.
  • Oversee client communication protocols and service recovery processes.
  • Represent Kin in the local veterinary community and support outreach initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, healthcare management, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in veterinary, human healthcare, or specialty hospital operations.
  • Prior leadership experience in a veterinary emergency or specialty setting strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in team management, budgeting, and business planning.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a strong sense of accountability.
  • Familiarity with veterinary practice management software and systems.
  • Experience supporting start-up or de novo operations a plus.

Job Summary

The Medical Director is a key member of the hospital leadership team, responsible for overseeing the medical
quality of care, ensuring regulatory compliance, recruiting of doctors, mentoring clinical staff, and driving strategic
growth alongside the Hospital Director. This is a dual role, balancing clinical duties with administrative and
leadership responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Administration
  • Serve as a leader and mentor to all veterinary staff, promoting a positive and collaborative hospital culture.
  • Partner with the Hospital Director in strategic planning, budgeting, and hospital operations.
  • Lead initiatives for continuous quality improvement in patient care and client services.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, and performance management of veterinarians.
  • Lead regular All Team Meetings and Doctor Meetings
Medical Oversight
  • Ensure the highest standards of veterinary medicine and patient care are consistently delivered.
  • Develop and implement medical protocols and clinical guidelines.
  • Monitor medical performance and outcomes across services.
  • Oversee case management reviews and morbidity/mortality rounds.
  • Collaborate with specialists to promote interdisciplinary care plans.
  • Address and resolve client concerns related to medical care and service quality, ensuring timely,
    empathetic, and professional communication.
Training & Development
  • Provide mentorship, feedback, and development opportunities to veterinarians and technicians.
  • Organize continuing education (CE) sessions and medical rounds.
  • Foster an environment of learning, research, and clinical advancement.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure hospital-wide compliance with all veterinary medical regulations and standards (DEA, OSHA, AAHA, etc.).
  • Participate in risk management and incident reviews to promote patient and staff safety.
  • Maintain accurate medical records in accordance with hospital and legal standards.
Qualifications
  • DVM or VMD degree (or equivalent) from an accredited veterinary college.
  • Valid veterinary license in Colorado
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical practice, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience in a specialty and/or emergency veterinary setting highly preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to balance clinical responsibilities with administrative duties.
  • Familiarity with building or supporting a start-up or de novo veterinary business is preferred, though we welcome
    candidates without this background
